Impaired driving defence in Laval

DUI defence is central to my practice. I defend impaired driving, over 80 and refusal charges, along with dangerous driving and hit and run. Impaired driving charges in Quebec are prosecuted by the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) in the Court of Québec or, in Montreal and several other cities, in the municipal court. In Laval, these cases are heard at the Laval courthouse. After more than three decades in court, I know how much depends on the details of the police investigation, and I review each one with you.

I also explain the SAAQ consequences that start right away, including the 90-day suspension, so that you can protect your licence while the criminal case moves forward.

My practice areas

  • DUI and Impaired Driving
  • Dangerous Driving and Hit and Run
  • Traffic Tickets
  • Domestic Violence
  • Theft and Shoplifting

Where I help

My office is on Boulevard Saint-Martin Est in Laval, and I am open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Charged with impaired driving in Laval? Key facts

From Quebec DUI Lawyers: in Quebec, a breath reading over .08 or a refusal to provide a sample brings an immediate 90-day licence suspension, and in some cases a 30-day vehicle seizure. Drivers 21 and under, learners and probationary licence holders must have no alcohol at all. A Criminal Code conviction leads to a licence revocation of one year for a first offence, three years for a second and five years for a third, and getting your licence back means passing an SAAQ evaluation and usually driving with an alcohol ignition interlock. See Quebec DUI penalties, our guide to Quebec impaired driving laws and what to expect from impaired driving charges. Speak with a lawyer early.

What to do now: keep every document police and the SAAQ gave you, including your suspension notice and your promise to appear, write down what you remember about the stop and the breath test while it is fresh, note any witnesses, and do not discuss the facts of your case with anyone before you have spoken with a lawyer. Bring all of it to your first consultation.
